China ends illegal drilling near Vietnam’s Hoang Sa

The China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) announced on July 15th that it had completed its drilling and exploration off Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago in the East Sea, and is relocating its rig in Hainan Islands.

Vietnam has welcomed the US Senate’s Resolution 412 which calls on China to withdraw its drilling rig and associated maritime forces from their current positions, and to return immediately to the status quo as it existed before May 1st, 2014.
